Educators: Read with Ladybird series
A structured, progressive reading programme that has been designed to supplement teaching methods used in schools. It combines a range of features each of which supports children as they learn to read:
Varied texts: Mixture of non-fiction, original stories, rhymes and traditional myths. Children learn about features of reference text, traditional story conventions and are encouraged to develop an ear for phonics through rhyme.
Multiple texts in each reader: Each reader contains 3, 4 or 5 short stories or rhymes which helps the child by breaking the books into manageable sections.
Mixed method: The core of the series lies in the first 100 Key Words. Stories and rhymes are structured to ensure adequate repetition of the vocabulary.

Books 1 -8
Books 1-8 are for beginner readers. Simple, entertaining stories and short rhymes help children remember what they have read and for careful introduction to the first 100 key words.
Books 9 -16
Books 9-16 enable children to practise vocabulary already learnt and encourage them to use a range of reading strategies to understand unfamiliar words.
Books 17 -20
Books 17-20 build reading stamina and develop independent reading. These are closer in content to the sorts of books that the children will go on to choose for themselves.
