Meet a few of our lovely Ladybirds.
Shelley Warnaby
Shelley has been working with the Ladybird Marketing team for two years. She writes the Ladybird newsletter and is lucky enough to liaise directly with ladybird readers, parents and primary school teachers as part of her work. She has a daughter who is 7, who is absolutely delighted that her mum works at Ladybird as she get to read lots of lovely books and a son who is 11 who is a voracious reader as well as a keen footballer and a typical older brother!
Geraldine Taylor
Geraldine is a learning and reading expert and a qualified and experienced teacher. She has given workshops on children's learning for thousands of parents around the country and has been Ladybird's educational consultant for many years. She is the author of Be Your Child's Natural Teacher in which she describes her own involvement with her son's education. Geraldine's special interests are the emotional factors affecting children's learning, and the family as learning supporters. Geraldine is a multi-award winning author and a wildlife expert and broadcaster.
Nicola Warner
Nic has worked in Ladybird Marketing for six years. Nic is passionate about helping children to read and volunteers at a local primary school, working with children who are finding reading a bit of a struggle. At the office she spends a lot of her time planning in-store promotions and working on campaigns to encourage parents and carers to read with children as early as possible. Nic also looks after marketing for Peppa Pig, Ben & Holly and BBC Children's books. Quite handily her desk is right by the team 'cake station'. Yum.
Adam Hall
Adam, he’s well...Adam. We’ve had him knocking about the place for over 6 years now and he just won’t go away. Working with the design team over at Ladybird Towers he would say is an honour, if you could get a sensible answer from him. He likes to mix pictures and words together in lovely ways, and when he’s finished doing that we get him to do some work. Having two young children himself, he’s certainly no stranger to their world of imagination; in fact, I wonder if he’s ever really grown up himself to be honest. Well that’s him, he’s well...Adam.
Nichola Gaskins
Became part of the Ladybird family in 2000, working first within the Marketing team and now as our Publicity Executive. She is mum to two little Ladybird fans aged six and three and she is endlessly enthusiastic about the promotion of early reading - whether it be the story of the Three Little Pigs or the story of Peppa Pig - having witnessed professionally and personally the considerable benefits this brings to a child's development.
Fiona Evans
Marketing Executive
Fiona has worked in the Ladybird marketing team for three years on everything from Topsy and Tim, Peppa Pig and Baby Touch. Fiona’s days are always varied and never dull! One moment she will be sourcing Topsy and Tim puppets for an in store event and the next immersed in the world of Peppa Pig and George. For Fiona working in Ladybird books is the perfect job and quite probably destiny, after all she used to have a fish called Topsy.
Ilka Schirmer
International Marketing Executive
Ilka works in international marketing supporting many local language co-publishers, and Ladybird readers, parents and teachers all over the world. She also gets to work on exhibitions and licensed merchandise for vintage Ladybird, which is a retro dream come true!
Camilla Ray
Marketing
Hi, I'm Camilla and I have been working on the Ladybird brand for many years now. I look after the global marketing; creating new ways to provide support and resources for parents and teachers around the world and helping to introduce Ladybird books to a new generation of children. I also work with our lovely retro products under the Vintage Ladybird banner.
Jo Garden
Deputy Art Director
Hi I’m Jo, I’m Deputy Art Director at Ladybird and I’ve worked here for about 7 years. What I really love about my job is coming up with book ideas with my fantastic team, working with great illustrators and knowing that maybe the first book a child enjoys could have been one we created on here at ladybird.
Elissa Gay
Designer
Hello! I’m Elissa and I work on the Ladybird Core team as a designer. Ladybird is a fantastic and creative team to work for and since I started here 2 years ago my love and passion for designing books has just kept on growing. Designing for Ladybird books gives me the opportunity to create a variety of fun and fresh titles from my favourite novelty titles to fiction. I just hope that children get as much enjoyment out of reading the book as I have had creating it.
Nicola Bird
Editor
Nic has been an editor at Ladybird for almost seven years – how the time’s flown! She looks after series such as Baby Touch and Read it yourself as well as a medley of sound books, touch-and-feel titles and books with flaps. Nic also works on many of the lovely Ladybird apps. A typical day in the office can be anything from researching and planning new titles, checking proofs and correcting text to storyboarding an app or thinking up a particularly snazzy title. If you ask her any question about Ladybird, she’ll probably know the answer - or at least pretend to. If she was on Mastermind, her specialist subject would definitely be ‘The touch-and feels of Baby Touch’.
